Fantastic and rare 1st Ed, 1928 hardcover book The Romance of Perfume by Richard Le Galllienne with color illustrations by the famous George Barbier. George Barbier is considered one of the finest costume designer and artists of the Art Deco eara. His renowned fashion plates in leading contemporary magazines like the Gazette du Bon Ton and Vogue made him highly sought after. Published by Richard Hudnut, NY, 1928 and presumed to commemorate the opening of his Perfumery in Pars. This delightful pictoral is a modern English adaptation of a type designed in France in the sixteenth century by Robert Granjon and is printed on special antique rag paper with deckled rough edges. Done in the printing house of William Edwin Rudge January 1928. The illustrations are reproduced by the Smithsonian process, and done at the printing house of William Edwin Rudge January 1928. Text exhibits several desirable printing features: "ct" & "st" ligatures and lilac-hued script initials. BONUs - still contains its rear pocket as a supplemental booklet, "At 20 Rue de la Paix," bound with white satin ribbon and featuring prints of the interior showroom of Richard Hudnut Paris. CONDITION: The book is tight and remarkably clean. No foxing, tears or discoloration. The spin is tight and all edges are unscuffed or worn. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
