Monumental and rare MCM vintage Bitossi, Aldo Londi mid century modern table lamp. Fantastic and rare Italian studio art pottery lighting from the 1960's with offset tangerine orange and terracotta alternating lines. The design features a cylinder form. The glaze is a highly textral volcanic glaze.Short teak riser which looks great with the pottery base. Retains its original Made in Italy paper label which is amazing. Three-way switch - used for dimming and setting a mood. Price does NOT include the shade and would make shipping unnecessarily expensive to boot. Will require careful packaging and because of size and weight may take a little while to package for shipping (which includes insurance and tracking.) CONDITION: Without damage or repairs - shade NOT included
Aldo Londi was born in Montelupo in 1911, and started working for a ceramics manufacturer when he was 11 years old. After being taken prisoner in South Africa during WW2, he returned to Italy and in 1946 was appointed artistic director at Bitossi. He held that position for over 50 years, and created thousand of designs for vases, jugs, animals, candle stick holders and other objects.
In 1921 Guido Bitossi formalised the Bitossi family’s artisan ceramic-making history by transforming their local craft into a structured and productive organisation, Bitossi Ceramiche following the long traditions of ceramic production in Florence since 1500. With over 7000 original pieces produced from the 1950s onwards, the original pieces have become highly coveted by collectors, particularly those of the iconic Rimini Blu collection. The new pieces are still produced in Florence using the same tools from the 1950s, each piece carrying the hand and the eye of the masterful ceramicist who gave it form. Over the decades the Bitossi artisans have collaborated with numerous designers such as Ettore Sottsass, Arik Levy, Piero Fornasetti and Mario Ferrarini
Andrea, your store is a wonderful treasure trove and your knowledge and class are of a scholarly collector.
I am a university research professor with an eye for detail. I have never seen any vendor with your level of exquisite scholarship. Just like your fine objets d'art, your descriptions are crafted with masterful finesse; it is such a pleasure reading them and it is also a great learning experience. Thanks again! Patrick
From the first time I watched a classic movie as a young girl, and watched Astaire and Rogers float across a dance floor I have loved art deco design, art, fashion and jewelry. So bold and beautiful, and so different from anything that came before it, art deco changed social and design sensibilities forever.A lifetime collector of high quality antiques and vintage, I started by making contacts, researching and learning. Picking the best of the best, I live with art deco and vintage decor and used to wear the fashions of the day. To say that I feel in love is an understatement. I reveled in the fact that I was able to reflect my unique style and sensibilities with a marriage of old and new. What you see in my shop is my personal collection. Since I was in my teens I have bought what pleases me, what I find beautiful and unique, and the things that speak to me on a creative level. I hope that you can see and feel the passion and love that I feel for antiques and vintage pieces and share with you. You will find art deco, collectible and vintage fine art paintings, original illustrations and magazine covers, home decor, marble, alabaster and metal lamps, nude flapper table lamps, sterling silver decorative accents and tableware for the home and entertaining, designer and estate jewelry and fine vintage watches in my shop.
