Stunning art deco hand signed Lourits Tuxen (1853 - 1927) etching dating to 1924. This is an exceptional rendition of the Greek and Roman Goddess Diana in all her naked glory. She is shown standing on top of a globe, with her arms drapped in a gosamer fabric. There is a bright start shining above her head. On the reverse there is a label which gives the date as 1924 and the Roman Diana, the Goddess of "Bright Day", welcoming the the light that is born from the darkness. This gorgeous period, early art deco etching is signed in pencil by hand "L Tuxen". Lourits Tuxen is a well known and listed Danish artist who graducated from the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen in 1872. He then went on to study with Leon Bonnat in Paris from 1875 - 1876.
He achieved international fame as a portrait and figure painter and painted many members of European royal families including the British Queen Victoria and her family. He travelled in most of Europe, Egypt and California and exhibited internationally both at world exhibitions and at the Paris Salons where he was also part of the selection committee. He received many awards during his career including a medal at the World Exhibition in Chicago in 1893 and in Münich in 1905. He was professor and later vice-president at the Academy in Copenhagen 1909-23, but no less important was his teaching at the "Studyschool" from the 1880's. Here he taught the ideals of late 19 C French art to a new generation of Danish artists. A painting by Tuxen was sold at Sotheby's in New York on 23 May 1997 for $85,000 !!

Andrea, your store is a wonderful treasure trove and your knowledge and class are of a scholarly collector.
I am a university research professor with an eye for detail. I have never seen any vendor with your level of exquisite scholarship. Just like your fine objets d'art, your descriptions are crafted with masterful finesse; it is such a pleasure reading them and it is also a great learning experience. Thanks again! Patrick
From the first time I watched Astaire and Rogers float across a dance floor as a young girl, I have loved art deco design, art, fashion and jewelry. So bold and beautiful, and so different from anything that came before it. Art deco changed social and design sensibilities forever. A lifetime collector of high quality antiques and vintage, I started by making contacts, researching and learning. Picking the best of the best, I live with art deco and vintage decor and used to wear the fashions of the day. To say that I feel in love is an understatement. I reveled in the fact that I was able to reflect my unique style and sensibilities with a marriage of old and new. What you see in my shop is my personal collection. Since I was in my teens I have bought what pleases me, what I find beautiful and unique, and the things that speak to me on a creative level. I hope that you can see and feel the passion and love that I feel for antiques and vintage pieces and share with you. You will find art deco, collectible and vintage fine art paintings, original illustrations and magazine covers, home decor, marble, alabaster and metal lamps, nude flapper table lamps, sterling silver decorative accents and tableware for the home and entertaining, designer and estate jewelry and fine vintage watches in my shop.
